SIBIU JAZZ COMPETITION

23rd-25th May 2016

2016 Edition of SJF Competition, a part of the 46th Edition of Sibiu Jazz Festival, took place between 23-25 May. Adressed to the new generation of jazz musicians, Sibiu Jazz Competition brought to Sibiu 15 participants (bands and soloists) from Austria, Italy, Moldavia, Hungary and Romania.

Judges

The judge pannel was made up of 5 members and was chaired by Simona Adina Maxim, executive director at Sibiu Jazz Festival.

Florian Lungu – musicologist, jazz presenter, radio and television broadcaster, composer of jazz themes

Constantin Iridon – musician and professor, he founded the jazz band Harmony

Daniela Nicolae – jazz pianist, physician, journalist with postgraduate studies at the University of Music from Bucharest

Alex Vasiliu – editor, broadcaster for TVR Iasi, artistic director (1999-2008) for the “Richard Oschanitzky” International Jazz Festival from Iasi

Niccolo Faraci – double bass player, leader of more projects from the jazz world, he participated in international festivals and recorded many albums


Winners:

The best band - BB Quartet

The best vocalist - Kristina Koszorus

Composition award - Giuseppe Dimonte (Pippi Dimonte Quintet) for the song “Neukolln”

The jury prize - Viorica Pintilie Quartet

The jury prize - Sandu Bantas

Audience awards - Groovy Bastards, Cristina Radu
